International 24-hour Shakespeare Festival

Working as a creative producer, Brek produced the biggest ever international theatre and online youth performance of Shakespeare. Beginning in New Zealand on 23rd April 2008 and ending 24 hours later in Hawaii, 60 youth groups performed plays at 7pm local time to celebrate Shakespeare’s birthday. The 24 hour performance was produced for the Shakespeare Schools Festival (SSF) as part of “The world in one city” for Liverpool’s Capital of Culture celebrations.

Brek produced the event from scratch working with the British Council and numerous international theatre and arts organsiations worldwide to recruit productions. Devising and delivering unique training, marketing and broadcasting for the event to enable the first ever performances of Shakespeare in Malawi and Cape Verde to take place and the first ever online platform for an international youth performance.

On behalf of SSF, Brek commissioned Jamilla Gavin to adapt “Measure for Measure” for the National Youth Theatre to perform and present as our UK performance.
